Netting Plus Spikes: A Complete Bird-Control Scheme for a School Campus
Beishi Elementary in Madou, Tainan had a long-running bird problem. Netting and spikes were designed together, closing both entry routes and perching spots.
The problem
Beishi Elementary School in Madou District, Tainan, had suffered from birds for years: nests between eaves and windows, droppings across floors and walls, affecting hygiene and student safety. Working from the layout of the campus and the birds’ habits, we designed and installed both netting and spikes, closing off entry and perching alike, with a marked improvement overall. The case shows that a single measure only goes so far — it takes both to achieve protection that lasts.
Why netting and spikes belong together
Netting suits large-area exclusion — open corridors, light wells, soffits. It is less practical in small, awkward spots such as pipe junctions, the tops of light fittings or projecting wall details. Spikes cover exactly those gaps. Used together they block the routes in and remove the places to rest and breed.
Survey and custom design matter
No two sites call for the same approach. We survey every project before installation, and design the combination around the species present, their movement patterns and the building itself. Here, netting for the main protection plus spikes for local reinforcement returned the campus to being clean and quiet.
